Social Dialogue matters

ILO conventions and Turkey

Of the total of 105 ILO conventions, Turkey ratified 56, leaving 49 ILO conventions non-ratified. Turkey ratified all 8 ‘fundamental conventions’, 3 of the four ‘governance conventions’ and 45 of the 177 ‘Technical conventions’. The not-ratified governance conventions is the ILO convention C129 on the labour inspection in agriculture.

From the perspective of the Turkish trade unions, the ratification of the ILO convention number 87 and 98 are of central importance.

Turkish trade unions (DISK link, official ILO complaints link), academics and international trade union organizations (link, ITUC) nevertheless complain frequently about non-conformity with these conventions on the field.

As a result, the ILO called upon the Turkish government to make the necessary changes to the legislation in order to align the legislation with the ratified ILO conventions (link, link).
